Current Projects
We are in the process of building the foundation for the strong organization we aspire to be. In March 2009 EOS International's Executive Director, accompanied by two friends of EOS, made the inaugural EOS International development trip. Some highlights from the trip included:
- Installation of a fully functional gravity fed drip irrigation system
- Planting of a diverse vegetable garden for a local school
- Education of the local community about the benefits of drip irrigation
- The formation of partnerships within the local community.
Since the installation in March, EOS has received feedback from local farmers that are excited by this technology. Thus, EOS will be expanding the drip irrigation program so more Nicaraguan farmers can use this technology during the next dry season.
EOS International is also working on other relevant technologies for the San Jose community including:
- Installing improved stoves that are more efficient and improve long-term health of users
- Educating local woman on the benefits of using wash stands rather than washing clothes in the river, and building these wash stands for community use.
- Evaluating options for bringing electricity to local villages that are currently "off the grid."
- Installing and maintaining biogas digesters.
Longer term, EOS International plans to begin working on various projects in a number of developing countries. In the future, EOS hopes to expand their focus to include:
- Becoming a distribution network between designers of sustainable technologies and the people living in under-served communities who would benefit from these technologies.
- Developing tests and assessment strategies for sustainable technology designers based on the efficacy and feasibility of their products and ideas.
